Advanced audio settings

Fine-tune the result like a sound engineer. Every choice below is optional - leave a box on Auto or Original and the tool picks a sensible value for you. Only options that the chosen format supports are shown.

Preset Fills the boxes below for a typical purpose. You can still change any box afterwards. Bitrate (kbps) How much data every second of sound gets. Higher = better quality and a bigger file. Speech: 32-64. Music: 128-192. Best lossy quality: 256-320. Bitrate mode CBR keeps the same data rate all the time (predictable size, needed by some players). VBR gives hard passages more data (usually better sound for the same size). Sample rate Snapshots of sound taken per second. 44.1 kHz = CD and music, 48 kHz = video and broadcast, 16-22 kHz = speech, 96 kHz and above = studio masters. A higher rate than your original adds nothing. Channels Mono halves the size and is ideal for speech. Stereo keeps left and right for music. Choosing stereo for a mono recording just copies the sound to both sides. Bit depth Precision of each sample. 16-bit = CD, 24-bit = studio, 32-bit / 32-bit float = editing headroom, 8-bit = tiny files with audible hiss. Only matters for lossless and WAV-type formats. Compression level FLAC is always lossless - this only trades speed for size. 0 = fastest, biggest file; 8 = slowest, smallest file. The sound is identical at every level.

Normalize loudness (EBU R128, -16 LUFS)Evens out volume to the international broadcast / podcast standard, so quiet files get louder and loud ones softer. Remove tags & metadataDeletes title, artist, album art, GPS and other hidden information - good for privacy and a slightly smaller file.

How to use the PDF Merger

The PDF Merger joins several PDFs into one document in the order you choose, and can fit several pages on each sheet to save paper. Text and vector graphics are placed as they are, so the merged file stays crisp.

Order matters

Files are merged exactly in the order shown. Use the up and down controls to rearrange them before merging.

Pages per sheet

Choose 1 page per sheet for a normal merge, or 2, 4, 6, 8 or 16 to create compact handouts on A4 or US Letter, with optional borders between pages.

Quality

Pages are copied as they are and not rendered into pictures, so text stays selectable and sharp, and links and fonts are preserved wherever possible.

Bookmarks

A bookmark is added for each source file to make long merged documents easy to navigate.

Size and speed

Merging is very fast, normally under a second for typical documents. If the result is too big for email, use the reduce option to recompress it.

Privacy

No account is needed. Source files and the merged result are removed automatically two minutes after your download has finished (a result nobody downloads is removed after 30 minutes).

Troubleshooting

A PDF will not merge

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. Damaged files cannot be read.

Pages look small in a layout

Multiple pages per sheet shrink each page to fit. Use fewer pages per sheet or a larger paper size.

The file is too large

Tick the reduce option or run the result through the File Size Reducer.

Tips and good to know

Which layout should I print?

2-up and 4-up are comfortable to read. 6-up and 8-up are great for revision notes and slide handouts, but the text gets small - use a good printer and check one sheet first.

Are my fonts and images affected?

No. Pages are scaled down as a whole, not re-compressed, so images keep their original resolution and text stays selectable.

My PDF has a password.

Password-protected files cannot be merged. Remove the password in your PDF viewer first, then upload it again.

How many PDFs can I merge?

In what order are PDFs merged?

Exactly in the order shown in the list, and each file's pages keep their own order. Use the arrows to change it before pressing Merge.

Will the merged PDF look the same?

Yes. Layouts are built from your original pages without re-rendering them, so quality is preserved.

Are my files kept?
