How to make photos, audio, video and PDFs smaller without ruining them
The File Size Reducer shrinks a file by a percentage you choose, so it fits an upload limit, an email attachment or a chat app. It handles images (including iPhone HEIC photos), audio, video and PDF documents, and shows a live preview for pictures so you see the real result before you download.
Common uses
Government and job application forms
Portals often demand a photo under 50 KB, a signature under 20 KB or a scanned certificate under 200 KB. Upload your picture, move the slider until the preview shows the size you need, and download.
Email attachments
Mail services refuse attachments above roughly 20 to 25 MB. Reduce a folder of photos or a scanned PDF so the whole message goes through at the first attempt.
WhatsApp, Telegram and messaging
Large videos are re-compressed hard by chat apps. Reducing them yourself first keeps more of the quality you care about and sends faster on mobile data.
Websites and blogs
Smaller images load faster, which helps visitors and search rankings. Reduce hero images and product photos before you upload them to your site.
Storage and backups
Phone photos and screen recordings pile up. Shrinking them frees space on a phone, in cloud storage or on a USB drive.
Scanned documents
Multi-page scans from a phone camera can be huge. The PDF reducer re-compresses the page images while keeping the pages, order and text.
How the slider works
A low value keeps almost all quality and gives modest savings; a high value compresses harder for the smallest file. For images the tool searches for the best quality that fits and previews it exactly. For audio and video it chooses sensible bitrates for the level you pick.
What gets reduced
Images are re-encoded and, when needed, scaled down; audio uses a lower bitrate; video uses a more efficient encoding with a lower bitrate and, for strong settings, a smaller frame size; PDFs have their embedded pictures recompressed.
When a file cannot get smaller
Some files are already as small as they sensibly go. In that case you receive the original back instead of a bigger file, so a reduction is never a step backwards.
Reducing to an exact size
For forms with a hard limit, start around 50 and adjust. Because the preview is the real output, you can stop as soon as the size reads under the limit instead of guessing.
Big files and speed
Pictures and short audio are reduced in about a second. Video takes longer because it must be re-encoded, and the progress bar shows each file separately. Up to 200 MB in total per task is accepted (one file or several together).
Privacy
No sign-up and no watermark. Files are removed automatically two minutes after your download has finished (a result nobody downloads is removed after 30 minutes).
Troubleshooting
The result is still too big
Raise the slider, or reduce the dimensions first with the Image Converter. A photo of a printed page compresses far less than a clean scan.
The picture looks blurry
Lower the slider. Text and fine detail need a gentler setting than ordinary photographs.
The portal still rejects the file
Check the exact format it wants (often JPG) and convert with the Image Converter first, then reduce.
